We had a good crowd at the Sunshine Center for February’s Second Saturday open mic. As always, the stories were fascinating and well told.
Wanda regaled us with true legends of African American WW2 heroes who prepared the ground for D-Day by using dangerous hydrogen balloons to covertly descend to the beaches at night in advance. She also told us of their peaceful inspiration to a modern-day African American businessman and balloon artist, Charles Walker, from Balloons of Joy. An example of this was on display, celebrating the month’s theme.
We also heard from Ellen Smith Streich, who, as always, told a great story and brought us free used books from the Christmas Toy Shop. Thank you for all the wonderful work your charity does to make children smile.
We did run a little long because our group is growing, which is good. However, if it becomes more than five minutes on a regular basis, we may need to consider enforcing time limits and/or ending without everyone speaking. Because we’re that popular! Yeah, us!
Wanda did not have time to cook for this occasion, so let’s take a moment to reflect on how much she does in general. Frankly, she makes me tired just thinking about it. Thank you, Wanda.
That’s really all we have to report for this month’s open mic. See you next time.
